Dr. Robert Sopko

D.D.S, PA

Dr. Robert P. Sopko has been practicing in the triangle for over 22 years.  Dr. Sopko is a graduate of the University of Delaware where he majored in Biology and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.  Dr. Sopko received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland where he was given a partial scholarship. Dr. Sopko graduated dental school with honors and with special recognition from the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

Dr. Sopko completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  While in his residency, Dr. Sopko received advanced clinical and didactic training in all areas of dentistry.  Dr. Sopko especially enjoyed endodontics and under the direction of the endodontic faculty, including Dr. Martin Trope, Dr. Sopko was able to treat more advanced endodontic cases.  After completing his general dentistry residency, Dr. Sopko practiced general dentistry in Cary, NC where he continued to advance his interest in endodontics through clinical practice and continuing education in endodontics.  

After four years of general practice, Dr. Sopko returned to academics and attended the endodontic residency and graduate school at the University of Maryland. While in his residency, Dr. Sopko participated in the Edward C. Penick Endodontic Study Club, which hosted famous endodontic speakers from around the world.

After completing his endodontic residency, Dr. Sopko returned to North Carolina to enter private practice.   Dr. Sopko joined the  Department of Endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he serves as a Clinical Adjunct  Professor.  Dr. Sopko enjoys teaching clinical endodontics to the undergraduate dental students and postgraduate endodontic residents.  Dr. Sopko remains an active member in the American Association of Endodontics , in the Tar Heel Endodontic Association, in the American Dental Association, in the North Carolina Dental Society, and in the Raleigh Wake County Dental Society
